The K3L (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) exam at the UNS Chemical Engineering Study Program is part of the research and practical activities conducted in the laboratory by the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sebelas Maret (PSTK FT UNS). The procedure for students to obtain a work permit in the PSTK FT UNS laboratory for research or practical work is as follows:
1. Attend the Safety Induction organized by the PSTK K3L Team.
2. Take the Laboratory K3L (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) Exam, which is held regularly at the beginning of each semester.
3. Fill out the PSTK FT UNS laboratory access permit form.
4. Create a report on the MSDS of the materials used, work instructions, and safety identification for the research under the guidance of a research supervisor. The report is then approved by the PSTK K3L Team and submitted to the Head of the Laboratory.
In relation to the laboratory work permit procedures mentioned above, the K3L (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) Exam in the laboratory is crucial. This exam serves as an indicator of the laboratory users’ knowledge regarding occupational safety in the laboratory. Users who pass the K3L exam are considered to have met the basic competency requirements for laboratory safety. This ensures that all laboratory users are aware of and implement safe laboratory practices, contributing to the creation of a safe and secure working environment or laboratory.
The basic competencies covered by the K3L Exam include:
1. Knowledge of work safety regulations
2. Understanding of hazards and their prevention
3. Knowledge of chemical storage and handling procedures
4. Understanding of K3L implementation during laboratory hazards
5. Knowledge of first aid (P3K)
6. Knowledge of fire extinguisher components
7. Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the laboratory
8. Knowledge of chemical waste management
9. Knowledge of COVID-19 health protocols
The regulations for the implementation of the K3L (Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment) Exam in the laboratory are as follows :
